Commercial Finfish/Shellfish Aquaculture Licence

Aquaculture is a significant contributor to the provincial economy, and most aquaculture jobs are located in coastal communities. With its mild climate, good water quality and sheltered bays, British Columbia's coastline is well suited for both finfish and shellfish aquaculture. Farmed salmon is B.C.'s largest agricultural export product. The provincial government continues to license marine plant cultivation and issue tenures where operations take place on Crown land, issues business licences under the Fisheries Act, and maintains the mandate to protect the provincial public interest in sustainable aquaculture development.

Farmers have to deal with the unfair hand sometimes dealt by nature. Uncontrollable weather can ruin crops, and wreak havoc with farm budgets. Buying production insurance is a smart business decision, similar to house insurance, car insurance or life insurance.

FrontCounter BC Game Farm Licence

Game Farm Licence

The government of British Columbia conditionally approved game farming of fallow deer and plains bison in May 1987. Subsequently, reindeer was conditionally approved in February 1988 for the Peace River Region. BCMAL, in conjunction with the Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection (WLAP), administers appropriate legislation to minimize the risks of disease, illegal trade of wildlife and domestic livestock and to foster the industry's development. British Columbia's approach to game farming satisfies consumer demand while minimizing the impact upon wildlife. Through regulations and licence requirements, the farming of game animals is strictly controlled. Although game farming exists in many other parts of the world, the extent to which each jurisdiction has succeeded with its development varies greatly. This is, in part, due to the regulation (or lack of regulation) of the industry by the governing bodies.

A licence to cut (LTC) is a relatively small forest tenure that allows harvesting in a specific area over a relatively short period of time. An LTC is also not intended to be used like a timber sale licence to provide an ongoing stream of competitive timber harvesting opportunities. An LTC can grant harvesting rights for a number of purposes that cannot be addressed by larger licences or the timber sale licence program.
